Bowhunter Chronicles Podcast Episode 89: Scouting, Strategy and Gear – Jason Samkowiak

This week Adam and John talk with another traditional bowhunter Jason Samkowiak. We talk about in state scouting and hunting times as well as scouting and locating key terrain features for deer and mature buck movement.  Jason has yet to adopt any of the navigation apps and relies on GPS and google maps to help put him in the right spots while cyber scouting.  You can check out all of Jasons content from the website www.tbwpodcast.com

  1. Could you help me with something if you have a second? I’m just getting into bow hunting and I was wondering if you recommend a longbow or a crossbow. It seems like a longbow is more accurate. My dad says crossbows though are better for beginners. I appreciate the help!

    1. We don’t have a ton of knowledge on crossbows as we are more into the vertical bow avenue ourselves, but they can be a great way to get someone new into the sport. Any bow can be accurate, some just take more practice. I would say shoot both and see which one gives you more feel of accomplishment when you hit the bullseye or harvest the animal and go from there. Not sure who said it, if it was in this podcast or on another, but it was said that rarely does someone say hey can we go shoot the crossbow but with vertical bows and longbows and traditional equipment that is something that adults and kids alike have said. As long as you re getting out in the woods and having fun that’s really all that matters. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
